They've been through little league, boy scouts and the military together.. Now two Central PA brothers are sharing their stories of growing up in Snyder county with the next group of recruits... And as CBS 21's Rod Cowan shows us.. Today, they took their message to students at Central Penn College in Cumberland County. Steve and Dan Bisbee both graduated from Selinsgrove High School... Both served as US Army officers and now they devote much of their time to The Bisbee Project.
<"The Bisbee Project for us is our project for life. It is our scouting agency. We go out in Central Pennsylvania and find kids who grew up in small towns just like us and say they would make good leaders in government service." - Steve Bisbee>
Steve Bisbee is President of The Bisbee Project, an organization that recognizes high school students who are pursuing careers in Army, Navy, Air Force or ROTC. Dan returned to active military duty in 2005 and made his second trip to Iraq in 2007.
<"A real key for us here and that I've discovered through my experiences in Iraq and in the military is the distance between the cutting edge of foreign policy and hometown Pennsylvania is not a very far distance. It's very short." - Dan Bisbee>
Dan is now pursuing a doctorate degree in history but it's his experience in Iraq that not only changed him forever but pushed him to pass his lessons on to the next generation.
<"I have made an effort to get out and speak to small communities in PA and make the connection between a society in crisis like Baghdad and small town PA. They are very similar in terms of the need for dedicated, energetic and smart people who are ready to step up and say this needs to change, this is what we're going to do about it and this is where we're headed for the future." - Dan Bisbee>
